What is Special Needs Planning?

"Special Needs Planning" is all about taking care of your loved one with disabilities, whether it is taking care of their physical well-being or their financial assets or responsibilities.

With all of the rules, laws, and programs that are out there for us to try and find, sort through, investigate, narrow down, and hopefully decide on, the entire process of "Special Needs Planning" can be, to say the least, somewhat overwhelming.

As concerned parents or relatives of special needs children or adults, you want to "do the right thing" to protect your disabled loved one so that their needs, both physical and financial, are met for every day of their life.

Positioning assets in the right place, that will go beyond their basic needs like food, clothing, and shelter, is a critical concern to parents and relatives of "special needs" persons.  This must be done correctly so as not to disqualify them from SSI or from MEDICAID,  if they are, or will be receiving these entitlements, from these two government sponsored Federal and State programs.

GUARDIANSHIP is another critical area of concern that must be addressed in "Special Needs Planning."  Who will your disabled loved one be cared for after you're gone, or if you're not able to care for them?

Educating yourself is the KEY to successful "Special Needs Planning" for your disabled loved one.  Understanding the system and how federal and state laws apply to people with "special needs" is critical to planning for them now and for their future, whether you are here and able to do so, or not.  Without proper legal planning, the courts, judges, and lawyers will make decisions for your loved one instead of you. YOU are your child's best advocate and not the court system.  Positioning yourself to be in control for your loved one is the key, and not letting the government determine what's best for them.

Using lawyers who "specialize" in this area of the law, and who are informed about all of the laws that are unique and ever-changing in this area, is crucial to setting up the right plan for your loved one.  Knowledge and working with the right persons keeps you in control of your loved one's future.

We at Diversified Financial Services, work with a group of attorneys who specialize in this unique area of the law.  They can discuss the laws and how they pertain to your loved one, and educate you about what the best plan is for your person's individual scenario.

We urge you to contact us to discuss your child or loved one's specific needs, and to see what you can do to put a plan in place, or even to review an existing plan to see if it has been set up correctly.  Protecting your disabled loved one so that they can take advantage of, and receive what they are legally entitled to by law,  is what it's all about.  Don't let them be the victim of what you did not take the time to find out about. Our consultation is FREE so call or e-mail us to set up your appointment.
